Nature's handiwork along an area of Florida's northeast coast, has left such a large collection of coquina rock formations that the locals refer to the area as ''Boulder Beach.'' When it rains, acid in rainfall further erodes the shell composition, leaching essential minerals such as calcium carbonate, or lime, into the sandy quartz granules. Over time, as the lime interacts with the quartz, the two solids merge into a sedimentary mass called coquina rock.
