This is truly a southern magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora) found in many yards throughout the south. Reaching 27.5 m (90 ft) in height, it is a large striking evergreen tree with large dark green leaves and large white fragrant flowers up to 30 cm (12 in) in diameter.

Love the detail in this Penny - the curls in the center are awesome. Can't wait 'til it warms up enough here for my star magnolia to blossom. They only bloom for a couple of weeks up here in the northeast but what a treat when they do!
